With a little bit of imagination, you can easily create a Sesame Street Big Bird costume using only a few materials.
How To Make A Big Bird Costume
To make a Big Bird costume, you will need some bright yellow fabric, a lot of yellow feathers (you can easily find yellow feathered boas at local arts and crafts stores), sewing materials, a plain yellow hooded shirt with long sleeves, orange leggings, orange construction paper and a pair of fuzzy orange shoes or slippers.
First, measure out the fabric so that it is able to cover you from your body down to your knees.
Cut two equal sizes of the materials and sew them together, making sure that you leave a space for your neck, legs, and arms. It is advisable to leave a certain part of the lower portion of the suit, and just secure this with Velcro instead. This will make it extremely easy for you if you will need to go to the bathroom during the party.
Attach the feathers from the boas onto the shirt using a glue gun to secure them in place. Do the same thing on the sleeves of the yellow hooded shirt and the hood itself.
Next, comes the beak. You will need orange construction paper for this. Roll this so that it fits on your nose without constricting your breathing. Staple this together and use a piece of yellow elastic thread to help you attach this to your face.
To assemble the entire big bird costume, wear the hooded shirt first, and then cover your head with the hood.
Paint your face yellow and attach the beak on your nose area.
Next wear the yellow suit that you have constructed with the use of the yellow fabric over the shirt.
